It sounds simple enough, but it’s something we struggle with every day. Where does a growing digital agency find the visionary talent that’s needed to bring great ideas to life? I’m talking about those unique minds that are driven to disrupt in a refreshing way. The ones who have a proven knack for accomplishing the previously unimagined, and who consistently deliver those wow-check-this-out moments?
The answer, for Fi at least, is everywhere. We develop talent in-house by giving those in the early stages of their careers the challenges and direction they need to mature. And we’re not above going out and getting it if we have to. Which is the way things went down recently…
A willingness to compete
It’s no secret that the digital design industry is a competitive one. In an effort to continually produce groundbreaking work you have to be willing to compete with other agencies for top talent, and then position that talent for success by giving them continual opportunities to be disruptive, in a positive way of course. We feel we’ve accomplished that with two new additions to our team.
Fi is pleased to welcome aboard two very special new hires in JoRoan Lazaro, Director of UX, and Matt Cribbs, Director of Technology. JoRoan comes to us from R/GA, while Matt comes to us from Huge. Welcome aboard, gentlemen.
Passionate minds think alike…
Since its inception, Fi has always sought to continually top ourselves, to expand our thinking so that we can deliver supreme value for the brands we work with. We knew that JoRoan was Fi material because this is exactly what he’s done in his previous roles. A self-professed “purposeful wanderer”, he’s forever in pursuit of new and challenging experiences. As such, his role at Fi will be a multi-dimensional one. First and foremost, he’ll work with Irene Pereyra to help lead digital strategy and UX design across our wide range of clients. Second, he’ll help shape and grow our UX and Strategy team by mentoring and managing our designers.
A bit of history on JoRoan
As the Creative Director (Experience Design) on the Microsoft account at R/GA, he led the marketing of Windows 8 and Surface. At Electronic Arts he led the Experience Design and Creative Direction for the reboot of Origin, EA’s cross-platform gaming service. Launching across mobile, PC, Mac and next-generation Playstation and Xbox consoles later this year, the new service will, thanks in part to JoRoan, finally evolve from a PC-centric digital storefront into a richer, more engaging and rewarding gaming community.
While Experience Director at CP+B JoRoan oversaw the experience design of game-changing digital campaigns for clients like Coke Zero, vitaminwater, Jose Cuervo, Under Armour and Metlife. And oh yea, as Design Director at AOL during its hyper growth years he helped design the ubiquitous online service and client software, including the running man.
Says JoRoan, “I believe in the power of like-is-drawn-to-like… the recognition and attraction of passionate designers who recognize the authentic desire to make meaningful, wonderful experiences for people. It’s what drew me to Fi, and I think what drew them to me. I couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity because I just know it’s going to be a great one.”
Another Huge win for Fi
Why would someone with a wealth of experience in the digital industry, someone who has led engagements for major clients like Pepsi, HBO and XL Group, choose to jump ship at a large agency like Huge and come aboard a smaller agency like Fi? For the opportunity to make real waves, that’s why.
Fi is growing, and we can’t do it without top talent like Matt Cribbs. As Fi’s new Technology Director, Matt will help guide the technology vision, strategy, and execution of our large-scale projects from start to finish.
A true industry visionary
Fi is always looking for the next great digital thing, whether it exists as an idea, or as an underutilized technology that still needs to evolve. We come together frequently to discuss ideas and give voice to the things that inspire us. A true visionary and creative technological problem solver, Matt will be a trusted and prominent voice in these meetings, helping to influence what’s next in digital so that we can bring not only our visions, but also our clients’ visions to life.
In order for Fi to grow we need the right people at all levels of the organization. JoRoan brings with him a tremendous amount of UX and creative knowledge, as well as an eagerness to share that knowledge, which is great. On the other side of things, tech is a tremendously important component of every digital agency. We were pretty good in that area before, and bringing Matt aboard is going to make us even better. I’m very happy to welcome JoRoan and Matt to the Fi Team.
